8 SIMPLE SELF-CARE ROUTINES
I recognize that the term “self-care” has been overused recently, but it’s a struggle for me and this is still a muscle I’m building 😔 Self-care is personal and looks different for everyone so take this with a lot of salt. If, like me, you struggle with a “busy” schedule while still trying to survive this pandemic and the ongoing social revolution✊🏾, then you understand that putting yourself first is a hard thing. Making time for the most basic self-care practices has become a commitment and on most days I’m lucky if I make it through most of these.
True self-care starts from the inside-out. My routines help me center myself and quiet down the noise from this maaad world 🤯 I try to cultivate a healthy mind, body, and soul with these eight daily habits that place value on my well being.
1. Make my bed
This is a huge achievement on my to-do list. I’m thankful for every new day 🙏🏾🌞
Extra points if I change the sheets ✔️
2. Yoga/stretch & Meditate
My friend Bunji introduced me to this 30-day yoga challenge. It was my first time trying out yoga, and it’s since become a habit. Most of my good days start or end with a Yoga class which is a great way to invite calm and clarity.
Extra points if I journal 📝
3. Take a walk
Taking long walks around my neighborhood or in nature helps me switch off the work and get out of the house.
4. Buy myself fresh flowers
Invest in a good vase if you make this a habit 💐
5. Hair love
It's taken me years of unlearning to love and appreciate my 4C hair. But caring for my hair today is an act of self-love - it’s no longer a chore.
6. Take a long bath/shower
Our Lamu candle is a blend of eucalyptus and lavender which is the perfect aroma for a long bath/shower.
7. Home food 😋
Good food is good life. I love cooking everything from njahi to spaghetti squash and my kitchen is always littt 🔥🌶
8. Light a candle… or two🕯🕯
Me I love candles 🕯♥️ I find the flames mesmerising 🔥 and find that different oils are great for aromatherapy.
Stay lit 🕯🔥
